One of Hungary's most famous alcoholic beverages is Unicum - a herbal liqueur, that you have to try at least once while in Budapest! There's actually a museum that tells the story of Zwack Unicum that you could visit to make the experience complete.

The Zwack family's fabulous reliques, - the more than 200-hundred-year old herb liqueur - the Unicum's history and several extraordinary bottles can be found in the museum. On the tour is the Unicum cellar which is a labyrinth with almost 500 oak barrels where the Unicum is aged for half a year. The visitors can taste the original Unicum and the Unicum Plum straight from the oak barrels enjoying the fragrances and the flavours of these herb liqueurs.

Tour the grounds where the medicinal, herbal liquor Unicum is made. You'll never learn the secret recipe, but you'll learn of it's origins - then get to taste it straight out of the barrel (two types, original recipe and plum-flavored). Definitely off the beaten path.
