Excellent permanent display of what life was like when this property was a "Poor House" in the late 1800s-early 1900s, along with engaging rotating displays of local artistry. Also excellent trails on the property.

Located between Elora and Fergus in the town of Aboyne, explore a number of permanent and seasonal exhibits. Housed in a historic home for poor, homeless, and destitute wellington residents. The archives and museum were added later with the goal of serving as a cultural learning center for the communities of Wellington County.

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is a National Historic Site and captures the history of Fergus, Elora and surrounding area with authentic well preserved items and stories. Located in a building that stands as the oldest remaining House of Industry in Canada. It was built in 1877 as a "Poor House" or place of refuge for the poor, homeless, and destitute people in Wellington County. It operated as a Poor House and Industrial Farm until 1947 when it became a County Home for the Aged. In 1974 it was transformed into the Wellington County Museum and Archives. A new Archives wing opened in 2010. The grounds are a bonus-with the butterfly gardens. Would definitely recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in history of the area.
