You really don't need a car in Gothenburg. Download "reseplaneraren" to check trams/buses and closest stations. Write down the adress where you are going if you don't know the adress. Buy "månadskort" through the app "Västtrafik GO". Before buying check at a Västtrafik office at Gothenburg Central Station or Brunnsparken if you can get a student discount on your card.

The first place to go to buy tram tickets (a card for example one or two days). Located just outside the central station and has the shape of a circle with a big clock on top.
