More than a Museum this marvallous Hall was Built in 1642 by a wealthy Halifax clothier, James Murgatroyd, now a Grade 1 listed Hall and owned by the National Trust. With intimate gardens and natural play areas, including the mud pie kitchen and den building corner, for families to enjoy. For the Historians amongst you, well there's the fascinating story of the Brigg Brothers, William and John were twins, they saw the importance of the property saving it from neglect, disrepair and demolition. Not once but twice, firstly in the early 20th Century, when they paid £2000 to buy back previously sold fittings and tried to raise funds locally before sadly having no option but to sell it on. And then again in 1933 purchasing the Hall again, along with 12 acres of land, from a man who had planned to demolish and rebuild the hall elsewhere. They gifted it to the National Trust the following year!
