You can hike up this volcano, there are many travel agents selling affordable tours going there, you don't have to do it in a tour, but it's recommended you don't go alone. You will have amazing views of the lake and a bit of a workout

The hike is 3-4 hours from San Pedro villagel, not a hard hike. Volcano San Pedro can be admired from the deck of Casa De Pescado's or can be traversed for a couple hours up for a delightful morning hike.
