Check out the lighthouse, climb across the rocks, stand over the blow hole! Fun trek - visit the beach after!

Punta Galera (now Galera Point) is one of the sights of Toco. Galera is a slight corruption of the word "galea", the name originally given to the southeastern point, Galeota Point, by Christopher Columbus. The name was accidentally given to this point as well. The name stuck and it remains a popular tourist destination. The Galera Point Lighthouse in Toco was built in 1897 and today is surrounded by a park and picnic area.

This light house was completed in 1867 but opened in 1897, to commemorate the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee - it still bears the Victorian inscription. It was renamed Keshorn Walcott to honour his javelin gold medal for Trinidad and Tobago in the 2012 London Olympics. He was the first Caribbean male athlete, as well as the first of African descent, to win the gold medal in a throwing event in the history of the Olympic games. The light house commands spectacular views of the sea - 2 hours 30 minutes (93.3 km) from Green Space.

The Lighthouse has been renamed to Keshorn Walcott Lighthouse our first time gold medal Olympian for Javelin. Galera Point is one of the most beautiful and dramatic ocean destinations in Trinidad. Literally the furthest eastern point of the island, Galera Point is the location of the Toco Lighthouse that overlooks the turbulent stretch of water known as the Fisherman’s Graveyard, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. The Toco lighthouse, a white stone tower built in 1897, shines a red light that warns vessels of the rocky waters below. Take a walk past the lighthouse down a narrow path through a small gate in the fence to the windblown rocky cliffs below where large waves crash against jagged black rocks. Here literally at Trinidad’s easternmost point you will behold a dramatic watery struggle where the waters of the Atlantic intermingle with the Caribbean Sea giving you a feeling that you are actually at world’s end. Outdoor furniture and carat sheds around the lighthouse make for a relaxing breezy picnic location.
