As a monument to the glory days when Bergen was both the cultural AND political capital of Norway stands the Bergenhus Fortress and the stately Håkonshallen (named after its first occupant King Håkon, son of Håkon). Also a nice area for strolling.

During the year Bergenhus festning have everything from food to music festivals! Absolutely worth checking out there calender

Bergenhus fortress. Museeum both indoors and outdoors. The tower was buildt in 1560. They also use the area as an open air concert venue with artists like Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, David Bowie etc. I mid June every year they also host this great music festival called Bergenfest.

This is one of the oldest and best preserved fortresses in Norway. It was a royal residence and administrative center at the time when Bergen was the capital of Norway. The fortress contains buildings dating as far back as the 1240s, as well as later constructions built as recently as World War II.
