A great day trip is to travel out to the Penang National Park (Taman Negara), located on the north-west corner of the island in Teluk Bahang. The park is easily accessed from George Town or Batu Ferringhi by public transport (RapidPenang bus) and there is a whole range of things to do for all the family. With some of the best beaches on the island located along it's shores, you can choose to travel around by boat or do some jungle trekking over the headlands and hills, where if you are lucky you will come across some of the parks wildlife, or you can just find a quiet spot for some bird watching or fishing.

Plenty of trails ranging from 60-120min. Lighthouse via Monkey beach is a great hike, but you need a good level of endurance for this.

Good for hiking lovers and beach lovers. After a fun hiking trail, you get to enjoy the beach at the end of the trail and see the cute little baby sea turtles at the sanctuary. There is a canopy walk too. You can opt for boat trip to the beach too if you are lazy to hike =)

The Penang National Park spans 1,213ha of land and sea and is used by scientists, researchers, and nature lovers to explore its natural treasures. Previously known as the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve, this pristine site is known to harbour 417 flora and 143 fauna species. Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve, located at the northwestern tip of Penang, was declared the Penang National Park in April 2003. Penang National Park is the first protected area legally gazetted under Malaysia's National Park Act of 1980, signifying the State and Federal governments' environmental protection efforts. Penang National Park was established to preserve and protect flora and fauna as well as objects with geological, archaeological, historical, ethnological, scientific, and scenic interests. Natural attractions of Pulau Pinang National Park include the hill / lowland dipterocarp forests, mangrove forest areas, sandy beach habitats, a seasonal meromictic lake and the open coastal seas. Stands of seraya (Shorea curtisii) trees, common feature of coastal dipterocarp forest, can be easily seen on steep slopes around Muka Head. Reference : Wikipedia
